HANDLING

Fertility of the eggs

Once the eggs have been collected from the farm they are stored at a temperature 12 – 18c.

All eggs are individually graded for cleanliness and to detect any cracks, before they are hand packed for shipping.

The fertility of the eggs varies depending on the age of the flock at the time. However, we can usually guarantee a fertility of 90% for our eggs.

Incubation
Handling

It goes without saying that the eggs must be handled with care at all times. They can be stored for up to 10 days within a temperature of 12-18c. After this time the development of the embryo slows, and the fertility of the egg diminishes by 1-2% per day.

See our Prices page for information on delivery options.

All our packaging can be re-cycled.

We use double thickness cardboard outer boxes and cardboard  'Keyes' trays or pre-packs in the boxes.

The air pouches are 90% reclaimed material (LD-PE4)and

can be put in your re-cyling bin

It is very important that you keep all egg storage and incubation equipment clean. You should thoroughly disinfect between batched of eggs that you incubate.

To avoid rapid changes in temperature you should allow the eggs to get to room temperature for a few hours before you incubate them.

Always incubate with the pointed end down, as this allows the embryo to develop into the air cell.

Incubation should start at 37.5c and you should follow the instructions from the incubator manufacturer for the correct humidity levels. Ensure the eggs are turned hourly.
